One row: Both posts were good. I'll add that at cranking speed the timing is less advanced.. if the mag or distributer are working right. That's the "Kicker" as refered to in 2ed post. Also, I'd set throttle at maybe 1/4 up from lowest setting. No need to run max right off. Hand starting some of the older tractors from the 1920's can be fun. Some had a compression release for easier hand rotation of the engine. As a kid I really liked hearing my uncle hand start his really old 2 cyl JD. The compression release would huff and puff with each foward and back rotation of the massive flywheel.. then finally it would catch and run. Lots of fun. Now all ya do is turn a key. G.
