Super M Decals

I just bought a '53 Super M. Under the brushed- on paint job, just in front of the round "Super M" decal (that wasn't painted over), there is a decal with the number "4" that was painted over. It looks like it is the same vintage as the usual Farmall decals. Does anybody know what this would have signified, and is it "OEM"?
