From what I've seen in cars, you can't trust Champion heat ranges. One car we saw had 9Y heat range plugs specified, but the plug would foul until we goosed it clear up to 15Y - 6 ranges hotter. I suspect this is where all the dislike for Champion plugs is coming from. Once you find the correct heat range, they work just fine. I dunno what happened - perhaps Champion made a goof when they tested the heat ranges of their plugs.

Just an assumption on my part.
