Measuring speed with no load, one should go for 575 to 600 rpm. I have one of these devices and most of the old Farmalls I checked years ago were not turning fast enough. You would probably find the factory setting on most C, H, M, 300, 400, etc. were very little over 540 with no load. IH did not put a lot empathizes on pto in those days, 90% of their market was in the Corn Belt.
