1936 Farmall F-12 fan belt installation

How to install fan belt without major dissassembly, or cutting belt? Problem is insufficient clearance between the handcrank pawl and crankshaft pulley to get belt between them and around the bottom (crankshaft) pulley. The old belt had been cut, assembled, and spliced with an alligator clamp. Worked for years!
