Sean: Your tractor was what the industry called a 2-3 plow tractor. As soil types vary tractor would pull 3 furrows in light soil and in heavy clay 2. On discs and cultivators, and I am going to address new items; A disc harrow with 16" diameter discs will as a rule of thumb require 1 hp per disc. The new S-tine cultivators are about the same 1 hp per point. Older machines that one may buy at auction will require less; discs that through wear have lost their concave or cultivator teeth that are feeling effect of metal fatigue. You will find discs and cultivator teeth in the latter condition don't penetrate soil very well. Condition of these machines used will vary, all the way from good as new to absolutely useless, and every thing in between.
