The tractor must work for a $1000. If the charging system needs to be replaced then I would offer him $850 and see what he says. What to look for, does it start cold, what is the engine compression-should be 80psi or more each cylinder. Look for cracks over the entire tractor that may have been welded over. Is it complete, is it rusty. Make sure everything works, lights, starts well, runs well, implement controls work. look at the engine oil and ask him if and what maintenance he has done to it.
