Steven, did you see Baggsy's post about using electrolysis to clean rust over on the Case Board a month or so ago? It works great on carbs! Get a five gallon plastic bucket & some washing soda (ya can find it in the laundry section @ grocery store-I used Arm & Hammer) & put a cup or two into the bucket & fill it about 1/2 full of water. Suspend carb into solution-be sure the carb is covered. I used a copper wire w/hose clamp to connect the carb to it & hung it from a fiberglass arrow shaft across the top of the bucket-ya gotta make sure its clean so current will flow-take a file to get to bare metal-I did not set it on the bottom of the bucket. Then take part of a tin can (I used a Coleman fuel can cut in half lengthwise so I had lots of surface area in the solution) & set into the solution-be sure they DO NOT TOUCH. Connect POS(+) CABLE of a battery charger to CAN & the NEG(-) CABLE to the copper wire suspending the CARB in the solution. Be sure the clamps are ABOVE the solution. Turn on charger & wait a couple of days, taking the carb out of the solution from time to time to use a steel brush to get the loose rust off. You'll be suprised at how rust-free it gets! You'll see the charger putting out a charge-I used a 6V on lowest setting, putting out about 5 amps. I cleaned up an spare SC carb that we had that was just a complete ball of rust. Only twisted off one screw & could have probably prevented that if I'd have used a little heat. (Another $0.02 worth. jal-SD)

One of the great things about working on a tractor engine with your other half is that you know what he is thinking of at all times and can anticipate his every move and his next thought of what he will do. With Ben, anyway, I can tell! He'll be busy working and I’m handing him tools and he says, "give me that..." and I’ve already got it in his hand or "hand me that....."and I’ve got the portable light right where he needed it placed to see. "Run in the house and get me a...."as I open th ... [Read Article]
