rich, I just replaced mine on both sides, some may disagree with me but mine did not come apart easily, the lower shaft that your talking about will come out, but hard. On mine after I had the cap off and bolt out of the shaft I used a long flat punch. I put the punch inside the threaded hole and beat on it for several hours. With no luck I got the sledge hammer out, three wacks on the punch with the sledge knocked it out. I would not say that the bearings are pressed on, beacause they can be removed without a press, but they are indeed a tight fit. If you putting the seal in behind the brake drum to, good luck the brake drum on mine came off extremly hard too. Good luck, Jon Mirgon
