It depended on the equipment. Most of the true experimental stuff was scrapped- either it didn't work very well, or else it got worn down in testing to the point where it broke or it wasn't worth much. Of course scrapping also maintained security about the developments. Some of the preproduction stuff did get sold to customers for realistic testing. IH usually repurchased it after awhile, but sometimes the stuff survived- preproduction stuff is rare, but a few tractors are out there. In recent years there were auctions held at the experimental centers, but even these were infrequent.
