It may make more sense than you realize. In todays electronic world the most common failure in automobile ignitions is the electronic pickup sensor at the distributor. The electronic ignitions on the market employ this type of device. When the conversion is made using the technique I referenced the points only carry the trigger voltage/current. My opinion remains that the points are more reliable than the electronics when used in this mode. The item most likely to fail in the point system with the minute electricity now is the rubbing block. With the heat that exist within the distributor which do you think will fail first, the mechanical points or the sensitive electronics in the sensors circuit?
