I have two of these tractors, and in one of them it was as shaggy describes. Half moon keys on the vertical shaft in steering box I my case the keyway was problem. I welded a key in shaft and ground it so cog had to be pressed on. The shaft was a throw away so what did I have to loose. That was 12 years ago, and steering is still tight. My other tractor was tight on shafts, however someone with a good set of arms must have run tractor with no lubrication in steering box. Gear and worm teeth are worn. That one will not be a cheap fix.
