Elwood mfg co. of Elwood, IL. offered FWA axles for the M-400-450-560 and 706 thru the 3688. They were even IH factory installed on the 86 and some of the 30 and 50 series. I believe Elwood never made a FWA axle for the H-300-350-460. As to how many of these FWA systems exist on pre 706-806 tractors, I would estimate very few do. When they do surface, a premium price can be expected to be paid. Elwood started in the late 1940's- early 50's using suplus Army Axles as the base unit. (Elwood, IL. is located across the road from the Army amunition plant/depot south of Joliet, IL., thus the availibilty of surplus axles). When the 80's farm crash occured, Elwood MFG fell to. Now a company called Trac 4 offers "98%" of the Elwood service parts made. Complete units are not for sale. I'm not sure when the pre 06 series axles were dropped. They use a chain drive drop box, and drive off the area where the tractors belt pulley would be mounted. Tractors with the Elwood front end probably do need "40 acres to turn this thing around".
