Most of the Farmalls I've been around had IH H4 mags on them.If you had an H4 on this tractor and you moved the rotor gear,I could tell you with certainty it's out of time.I'm not sure with the FM.Timing isn't that difficult.Pull #1 plug and put your thumb or finger over the hole and hand crank the tractor. When #1 is on compression, air will blow around your finger.Crank slowly until the air stops. You will be at TDC on 1.Remove the hand hole cover from the bottom of the bell housing.Look for a mark that says 1-4 TDC and line it up with the index inside the bell housing to get the engine exactly on #1TDC.Turn the mag impulse coupling until the distributor rotor points to #1 tower and install the mag on the tractor. The timing should be right on.If you can't hold the impulse coupling at #1,turn the engine backward to the point that the tractor half of the coupling will match the angle of rotation of the mag when you first start to feel resistance of the impulse spring and install the mag.If you have any more questions, feel free to e-mail or post them here.Have fun!
