I just had my freshly painted '53 Super A running again (pics coming soon I hope) and I have a couple of electrical questions. I have rewired this tractor to original and rebuilt the generator with a new voltage regulator and a nearly new battery, the ammeter was also recently rebuilt. Before painting but after rebuilding it I still had the old voltage regulator on and the ammeter would show ten amps at idle and peg the gauge at anything over that (I think the ammeter was working OK because after 5-10 mins of running the battery would be boiling). After replacing the voltage regulator (I have polarized the new one) at idle the needle on the ammeter rapidly pulsates from about -20 to positive 20 and the distance it swings decreases as you increase the throttle until it gets to about 1/2 and then it holds steady(ish) at just above 0. I only have 6 volts over the battery posts while running. Any comments or suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. SAm in NS
