Having done this a couple of times with a 1/2 ton GMC and 350 cid, I can say that, at best, it is borderline. Main problem is the transmission, if its an automatic, get an external cooler mounted in front of the radiator, and keep an eye on the fluid -- it's very easy to burn it. Also depends on your rear axle ratio and the terrian. In August of this year I pulled a Super H 300 miles on a 12000 gvw trailer (actual weight 3000 # plus a little over 4000# for the tractor. Had to have the transmission fluid changed enroute, and still had to add some before I got home. Trans got VERY hot, but is still ok so far. I was over GVW by at least 500# for flat terrian, unfortunately it wasn't always flat, thus the problems.
