Bob, I have a similar situation. I recently restored an H and no way to pull to shows etc. I have a 1/2 ton Chevy and no trailer. I've seen H's pulled with a 1/2 ton. I'm in process of getting a 2500 or 3500 truck. These trucks have larger braking capacity,heavier suspension and with appropriate coolers and axle ratios are built to haul/tow. Your trailer must have brakes on all 4 wheels. Your 1500 will be right at it's limit if not over and MUST have an external trans cooler. Above all BE SAFE!
