You should be fine hauling the H with a 1/2 ton. I regularly haul my H with my 01 F-150 regular cab, short bed, 4x4, with the 5.4 engine and auto tranny, 3.55 gears. Gross weight for the trailer and tractor is around 6500 lbs. Owners manual says I can tow 7400 lbs. I used to tow the same combination with my '99 F-150 that had the smaller 4.6 V-8 in it and that didn't have much of a problem, except for the hills! I guess all in all, make sure your 305 is running in top condition and make sure you have that tranny cooler on there and you should be just fine.
