I agree totally with what Daniel is saying about the gears in a Farmall A not being syncronized. However, after a little paractice shifting you will learn to shift gears without comming to a complete stop. There is a point at the right engine speed where the gear speeds line up just right so that the gears are "syncronized" or will mess together while moving. Its sorta like being able to shift an old standard vehicle without stepping on the clutch at a certain point because the gears "line up" just right. You'll eventually get a feel for being able to slip the transmission into the next gear (with the clutch in of course) while the tractor is still rolling on. So no, you can not shift on the fly, but after a little paractice, yes you can!
