Roulette Wheel

Gents!
Decided to winterize the old "H" and when backing her out of barn, stopped, put her in forward gear, and she DIED. Cranked and cranked, but after a few seconds cranking the pinion gear on starter disengaged. At that moment there emitted a sound from the magneto like steel ball bearings rolling around a roulette wheel? Anybody got an analysis real quick afore I go tearing into anything I should not? "TU"
