I believe the ultimate decision to be yours. If you are mechanically inclined enough to do most of the work yourself then I would say offer him no more than two hundred for it and get started on it. If you need to pay someone to repair this machine then I would find a better tractor for a few hundred more. I recently purchased a 50 C for $400.00 and I drove it up on the trailer. It has a couple of pieces missing but as luck would have it I found another for $500.00 with everything I needed for the first to return to original specs. I drove that one on the trailer also. I sold the second for what I paid for it and kept the wheel weights , the sickle bar mower and the two bottom plow. I made out well on that deal. It is the first tractor I bought to restore. I am only 34 years old but I find some sort of peace when I am resurecting different parts of it. I think that is part of the fun of these tractors, Trying to make them good as or better than new. Whatever you decide to buy enjoy the machine as often as you can. Dan.
