I just recently retired so you know kind of where I fit in the scheme of things. I grew up on a small grain farm in Towner County North Dakota. The two main tractors for heavy tillage in that area (and time frame) were the WD-9 and the John Deere R. Dad had a WD-9 and a couple uncles had JD Rs so I have many hours driving both. I liked both and they were pretty equal in power. The heaviest pulling implements were the Graham Hoeme or Jeffrey chisel plows. Some farmers claimed these tractors would pull a 15 ft chisel plow, but I know from experience that they would struggle with that. A 13 ft chisel plow was the ideal load. Don't want to ramble on and on but I could probably write a small book about this.
