What would keep a thief from looking at the list and picking out a tractor and reporting a non- stolen tractor as being stolen and trying to claim it. I think there is loop holes in every system. Or how about this for our current system. Go to auction, right down serial numbers, report those tractors stolen that same day, keep track of those tractors and turn new tractor owners in as having stolen property at a later date. It might work and might not, but with a little fictisous paper work a thief might pull it off. These kind of senarios is why I like to keep my serial numbers to myself. I am not a thief but to understand how stuff can be stolen you got to think like a thief. I have had the opportunity to buy stuff that I thought was a little shadey (maybe stolen) and always wondered if anyone would catch up with a guy on it. I never did buy stuff like that but realized that it would be super hard to locate and track down stolen property. I think the key is to avoid having anything just being a sitting duck so to speak as to being stolen. In order for something to be stolen Scott free there has to be an opportunity. Take the opportunity away and you have lowered the chances considerably and that needs to be your first step.
