I have done this twice, pretty much the same way you did. Most axle housing gaskets start leaking because of the inter axle bearing are starting to bad, not all the time but much of the time. About the only thing I did different was that I use cabinet shims to keep the bull gear from dropping or moving. It makes big differences when reinstalling the axle and you not trying to pick it up to line up with axle. (That thing is heavy on a Farmall 400) Great Post!!! John In Iowa
