Got the clutch out of the W-9 this evening. I have to switch flywheels since the original ring gear is rusted off for about 6 inches on the old one. Yes, indeed, the clutch and flywheel can be removed without pulling the engine or splitting the tractor. Takes a fair amount of work and things need to be lined up perfect for it to work too. It all comes out of the top of the bellhousing when you take the cover off. Have to take apart the coupler (4 bolts) remove the throwout bearing hanger, pull the clutch pivot shaft, and take the other half of the coupler off of the tranny input shaft to make it work. Tomorrow I need to find an army or a hoist to get that heavy flywheel out of there and the new one in. I'll have to weigh it just to see how much... Found the reason why the ring gear was rusted off - the whole space under the bellhousing cover was about 1/2 full with mouse stuff. Packed in hard, dead mice and all. Filled a 5 gallon pail with all the junk out of there! Pretty rusty in the bottom from them too, but I think the casting is thick enough yet :o) Thanks for letting me share, if I remember I'll take some pics tomorrow!
