W-9 progress!!

Made it home for the holidays and to work on the W-9! Started working on it yesterday around 4pm and had the new flywheel in and together by 10am today! I did quit at 8pm last night and didn't start until 8 this morning. The whole clutch and flywheel will fit out from the top cover, although it can be tricky! I took everything loose that I could and just wiggled around until it came out! Getting the flywheel out was another story, had to use the cherry picker to lift it out. Same deal putting the other flywheel in. It was really tricky getting everything to fall back together too, but I got it done anyway. At least the clutch and bearings looked good. The flywheel has some cracks I don't like, but should be fine for parades and puttering around the yard. Dad got the choke loose on the carburetor by heating the housing and tapping. Or maybe I should give credit to that expensive penetrating oil :o) I also started putting new radiator hoses on so I can put antifreeze in it when I get it all back together again. One more flush with plain water and some superflush additive and it should be OK. I even got the fan and generator pulleys loose today too so I can tighten the belts. Maybe in the next couple of days I'll get the steering fixed too (one steering arm has the splines slopped out). Other than that, all that is left is to get the hood and grille fixed, clean out the gas tank (any suggestions for removing an inch of tar?), and paint it! Oh yeah, anyone know of someplace to get a valve cover gasket for the beast? Thanks for letting me share!

The reason why I had to take it all apart! Mice had built a nest in there and it rusted away the ring gear! I cleaned out at least a five gallon pail of crud out of the housing. It was full up to the drive shaft!
