Before you decide, look at what your going to use for besides mowing and the landscape your going to be working on. Hillsides? Slopes? With the lower profile of the 8N you may find your able to go into areas where you would not dare with A or feel comfortable doing with the offsite seating arrangement. In my case I know there are areas I will not go with my H, but I will take my 8N. (The tricycle front of the H and the height, feel alot more comfortable staying away from some slopes on it - seems the height makes the slope "feel" greater in the seat.) Also consider if the A is tricycle or wide front. You may prefer one over the other. If you scan the posts here there has been alot of discussions if a widefront is more stable than a tricycle. Also check out the three point on the A, if it comes with it - I find easier to find implments set for three point hitches. Also the 8N has draft control for plowing. But no live pto or hydros. (Believe me you will want to pick up a backblade or some tool to help you in the future.) Also if your looking for a light duty front loader you can find these for an 8N in the 500 dollar price range - I dont know how easy or how well they work on an A. If your looking at the 8N, (be sure it is an 8N have seen a lot of 2N's and 8N's painted to look like 8Ns and even seen a couple being sold as 8n's), check out the year. Do you mind having an older front distributer model versus the newer side distributer model. Review Smiths 8N page. Take a glance at the 8N board and see what input you get there. Most important, if the wife is scared to use it, and she will need too - it may be a mute argument for now, pick up the 8N for her. Call it her tractor, then pick up an A, (you will probably prefer a Super A), for youself. Worked for me on a set of Cub Cadets - somehow she now has more tractors than I do! Both are great units. Have a great holiday. ps Was trying to talk the wife into letting me buy an A about 2 months ago myself with a manual lift belly mower as the exhaust lift was nonexistant on it. *>)

Pitfalls of Tractor Engine Rebuilds - by Chris Pratt. The first pop after you have put the machine together with your own hands is exciting and pleasing. The whole experience can be marred if one moves too fast and makes too many assumptions that they can just use "as is" some parts they should be closely scrutinizing and possibly attended to. In such cases, rework makes what could have been a fun project turn into an irritant or even a nightmare. Minor Irritants To give you an example of an minor but irritating proble
