Right on. I had a similar experience with a riding mower. I pulled it out of the barn and my dad and brother both said it wasn't worth monkeying with since the trans. was screwed up in it. So I went at it pulled the transmission apart and I couldn't find a thing wrong in there. As I was putting it all back together I discovered that all that was the matter with it was the previous owner didn't have the shift lever mounted on the trans. right so it wasn't shifting properly. They just stood there with a look of disbelief when I was out running around the yard with it. If I would have done what I usually do and ignore 95% of what is said to me and take the time to check it out I probably would have found the problem and had it fixed in five minutes instead of and hour and a half.
