You didnot say if the front steering assy is removed or not IT HAS TO BE REMOVED as the pulley will not clear the casting. Also check for a set screw and even a cap screw in the end of the crank. Like other post said a back-up plate is a good idea and a three jaw puller is used so it will pull straight.
