Not to exclude the block heater, but almost as important as a block heater is a battery blanket. At 0 deg F, a typical lead acid battery is only producing 10% of it's possible current. So take those nice cold cranking numbers on your battery and divide by 10 and that is all that you are getting. You can pick up a battery blanket at your local auto parts store for about $15. Plug it in at the same time as your block heater and you will have lots of umph when you hit that starter button.
