I don't quite follow the rubber you speak of unless it is rubber shield to keep water out of ball and socket area. I find with items such as these, just don't rush someone has them and you will come across them where you least expect. In the meantime keep lots of grease in there, that will keep water out. Problem with items like this today is industry is using them to sell unneeded parts. Rubbers in end of shocks on your auto is another good example, used to be able to buy at any auto parts store, now they only come with a new shock.
