Overfilled Crankcase on a 49 C

When I went to first look at the 49 C I have now, it smoked a little and had a severe oil leak out the rear main seal. I mean it was just running out the hand hole!!!! I thought with this kind of a leak, the crankcase must be almost dry right??? So I checked the oil level and ended up DRAINING out a gallon and a half of EXTRA oil. The guy asked what I was doing with those drain valves on the side of the pan. What kind of a fool would do this??? After bringing it to the proper level, mysterioulsy the leak and the smoking stopped. Just a funny story I thought some of youy might appreciate....
