I suspect that mechanical and exhaust lift were both IH options. I have seen a lot of A tractors without either and have seen them with one or other. I think more so than today many items were options. Farmers of the mid part of the last century were a lot more frugal than they are today. Those guys saw the dirty thirties, these guys today think they have arrived.
