86 series demonstrater????????

A friend of mine has a 1486 and a 986. They have a white hood and down the center of the hood is black. There are also two white stripes on the outside of the fenders. The front cast piece that holds the radiator is also white. He said they were that color when he bought then. Could this be a demo. or has someone painted them that way. Thanks for any info Keith.
