Bob is correct. Box must be put back on and be really good grounded for it to charge and polarity is the same for cut out and regulator. Just a couple things to check. If person before you converted system from positive ground to negative ground they may have switched wires on ampe guage so it would show charge instead of discharge and may have also switched wires on coil if tractor is equiped with generator. These changes won't make the system not work, but you can look at coil and it should be indicated on coil how wires should be hooked up as to + or -. After you got the system charging and you know that you have got it polarized the right way, if your wires on ampe guage were switched it will show discharge and will need to be switched back to show charge on ampe guage. It may be that just the battery cables were switched to be negative ground but to make the conversion complete the ampe guage and coil wires needed to be changed and the generator polarized the otherway and the onlyway to tell what the previous person done is to check it out and see if the wires have been switched. The system is actually really really simple, but the problem is is that most people are not like you and don't take the time to learn how the old system was.
