I forgot to answer some of your questions in the responce below. Your neighbor with the 560 almost certainly has an Elwood. The name is cast into the transmission. The "M" through 660 fwd will not bolt on to a 9 series or 600/650 tractor or any other tractor. Don't know if Elwood made one for that model. I believe that Elwood also made the first fwd for Minneapolis-Moline. I can't figure out how they work. The fwd tranny comes out the side of the rear frame and would seem to get its power from the countershaft. If that is the case, they would only work in one gear. Go to the MM board for more info. I seem to recall that Ford tractor had some early fwd that could have been dealer installed. You will have to check that board as well. Don't know if Elwood had any competitors in the fifties. It seems unlikely that a small welding shop could put one together. There is a good deal of machine and foundry work in each tranny. If I could get $5000-$7000 for a reproduction fwd, I might look into the possibility of using my Elwood as a pattern to make them. At this point I don't think that there is that kind of interest. I would like to see George Willer make a fwd Cub. Maybe he is already working on it.
