I have a 1949 M as well and we bored it out to a 4 1/8 inch piston and put a shallower head on it and it cranks 80 horsepower. The M transmission will hold a four bottom plow{ very risky}, but I garrantee it will not hold out long pulling a 5 bottom plow. My friend stripped a 1943 M's gears on a john deere 3 bottom plow in 2 gear. You will strip the transmission or you will bust the main drive shaft that is located above the hydrolic pump, and then you'll have big problems. I would advise you to not attempt this but to stay with the four bottom in sand or clay. Just my two cents.
