Steve, having just battled the carb.gremlins myself on a 49 cub I feel for you man! Sounds like the float is either not adjusted correctly or if it is your housing may be not in the best of shape.(I didn't want to kick you while your down and say trashed)If you take the carb apart you can adjust the float with a pair of needle nosed pliers,to limit the amount of fuel coming in,or take it off and have the man that rebuilt it for you try to make some adjustments. Good luck
