By "Early Disc Brake" do You mean the Lambert Brakes? They may have been avail. before IH made the switch from band to disc brakes. I never heard of a time when they became available. Total M production according to this site is 297,717 tractors Plus the 501 starting number Minus the 294,226 break from band to disc brakes in Your parts book shows about 3990 M's built with Super M disc brakes. Does Your parts book show all the other changes to the M rearend like the larger pilot bearing in the transission and the faster gear speeds being part of the change also? Dad's '51 M was built towards the end of the first week of Dec. '51, ser. # 288??? if I remember right. Dad still has the original operators manual and there's NO mention anywhere of disc brakes in the manual. 'Course I'm ALL too aware of how operator manuals were printed at Farmall.... I doubt things were much different in 1951 than they were in 1981. We made changes to tractors that weren't reflected in the operator's manuals available at the time.
