Damaged outer spline on differential shaft

Following removal of disk brake assembly on my '48 M to replace bull pinion oil seals, noticed damage to left-inside end of outer spline that fits over differential shaft. Damage is limited to the beveled portion on inside end of outer spline. Bearing appears sound (no rough edges noted) "L250" and "Made in USA" clearly readable on bearing yet I can't determine what would cause the chewing marks on the outer spline. Right side also removed with no damage seen. I have a .jpg of it but can't figure out how to post it here for y'all to view. Any help appreciated.
