I wouldn't necessarily count it out because of the fire. I have a 64 model 3020 John Deere that was on fire for an hour in 99. Had an accident moveing hay with it. Anyhow, 5 weeks later and scrap yard side rails, all belt, hoses, wiring and all. I drove it out of the shop and started baling with it again. Its still got a few things that needs to be done too it but it went right back to work. It is a diesel, you are probably lucky to find a gas tractor like that that had been in a fire and didn't explode completly. If I were in position to buy it I would in a heartbeat. These old tractors dont' have near the plastic that the new ones have and in my opinion if you put a 856 up against a comparable tractor today the 856 would win. Don't count out gas tractors either, diesel is more efficient and costs less but gas tractors are so much easier to start n the winter and you will only be dealing with one battery. How much is the selling price for the 856? In case anyone is wondering I like the Red ones and the Green ones.
