It all depends on the truck I personaly would not want to go over GVWR rating on door post of truck. Most trucks are rated to tow much more than they can haul. Your owners manual should have tow limits for your truck. The generaly accepted rule for pull behind trailer is to have 10 to 15 percent of weight on hitch and 20 to 25 percent on goose neck hitch. If you go less than 10 percent hitch weight on pull behind you are likely to have swaying problems. Just my two cents.
