solenoid wiring

I need to rewire a deutz tractor.I know I'm on the
wrong site, but IH guys seem to know more.
Is it possible that the push button starter switch would have a wire going to ground?Does the key switch or the push button normally have to be grounded? All original wiring is toast.Please Help
