I'm not an athority on this but have had personal experience. I did a complete overhaul on my 560 diesel and was told to use new bolts by the dealer where I got my parts. I also had the head planed flat when the valves were ground. I took a lot of time making sure my sleeves were shimmed correctly, retapped the holes, and then installed the head. I warmed it and retorqued as specified. 55 hours later I had a head gasket leak. Before I removed the head I rechecked the torque. It seemed to be close although some of the bolts were on the light side. I removed the head and after hours of inspection and review screwed one of the bolts into the block and measured the distance from the block to the bottom of the head. Turns out the bolts were bottoming out in the threads on some of the holes thus showing correct torque but not giving the result needed. I shortened the bolts I had by 1/8" and reinstalled. 571 hours later and no problems yet. Something to watch for, especially if machining the head.
