I put a 6 volt alternator on my Super A, 10 years ago. I had a new battery and my generator actually caught fire. I was cultivating rutabaga at the time, didn't have enough left to rebuild. I went to a rebuilder. He advised he couldn't supply a generator quick, but could get me a 6 volt alternator in 5 min. New alternator and same price as a 12 volt. Don't let anyone kid you, they are not special. I hooked the alternator up single wire, and used the extra wire in the harness to run to a push button starter type switch, this is used to excite the alternator. After 10 years every thing works great, the 10 year old battery is still in tractor. I guarentee this Super A will start on a cold morning when my 12 volt 130 will not. It has an alternator. I have a bushel basket of electrical parts, mostly regulators, I have not looked at in ten years. My tractors start better, they run better, because the battery is always at full charge.
