Where are you splitting it? I made some long dowels that would thread into the back half for lineup. Put pins in the end of them so that it wouldn't come apart until I was ready. after you get it split a bit put the bolts taht fasten frame rails to bell housing back in and put nuts on them so that it all stays rigid, especially if using an a frame to the side rails in front to hold it up.
