I got the situation under controll now but problem not resolved yet. Put horse in the small planked pen (can't get out of that) and got the cows back home. Things have seemed to calm down a bit and perhaps I can try some things agian now. The horse's pen is some what small but has all the extras. A roof over part of it, wind break, feed bunk, water tank, and all. Just a matter of putting him on an excersize program if he remains there. The horse has been historically run with other horses all the time. The previous owner couldn't do anything with the horse becuase he got to the point where he wouldn't leave the other horses. That is what makes me a little hesitant as to finding him a companion. I think keeping him by himself and occasionally running him with other livestock would do the horse alot of good. Find him a companion and he is likely to resort to his old ways. I need to be his center of attention now and not a companion. That is what he needs to get over instead of going back to. He may never be able to run with cattle or it will probably be something I'll have to be real patient with. For the time being I think I will find a bigger place for horse that he can't get out of and keep cattle close by but seperated. And occasionally allow some controlled contact to see if he would happen to improve. By having controlled contact hopefully some behavioral corrections can be made.
