The weed thing is true. But on say the steerable 2-row for a H or M, the rear gangs are absolutely necessary. There's only one shank right along each side of the row on the front gangs. The width is adjustable. But these would only cover a small part of the wide rows. the rear gangs have 3 shanks on the back center and 2 each on the sides. This is with the tripback shanks. Now on a C, (at least my set), the majority of shanks are in the front, and there are one shank for each of the 3 places on the back. For a garden or small patch, the front gangs might be enough. You could go over it until the weeds are gone. In a corn or bean field, you can't afford to miss much. For what it's worth: when my dad was a kid, they used to cultivate 400+ acres 3-5 times a year with 1-4 row cultivators. Now, we cultivate once with a 8 row 3pt., I fool around with 2 row mounted, and most of the neighbors no-till. Spray and GMO seeds are really starting to replace tillage. Mounted cultivators are getting harder to find. AG

If i said that this was a little frustrating for him that would be "conservative" in fact the problem had reduce
