I would stick with the 400. Ours goes real heavy on the gas as well. If you are doing lighter work, you can cut down on gas consumption a bit by turning the screw at the bottom left of the carb in a bit. For full load, it should be 5 turns of the seat, for idling little stuff I set ours at about 2 or 3 turns off the seat, wherever it maintains enough power to do the job. We have a 460 as well, and I think the 400 will do the job of two 460's. I fully believe the story about the 450 outpulling the 560. Those six-ers were real short on torque, those old 4 cylinders will lug down really awesome, and have more torque than you know what to do with. Just my 2 cents.
