Market surveys get mixed results. You're getting a big difference in time. H's outsold M's but M's may be more popular today. If you look at prices (supply versus demand) - a Cub maybe be more popular ( - read in demand) than an H or an M today. Markets shift over time - no one can deny that. So what was popular THEN versus what is popular or demanded NOW are two different answers.

My sentimental favorite is the H. I first learned how to drive a tractor on one. Other guys can stake the same claim for M's or A's or whatever. Hugh mentioned JD's - utilities vs. row crops. Check the Demand for a 320 JD versus a 730 JD. The 720, which far outsold the 320 at the time (manufacturers don't want to build things nobody is buying) now sells for 20 per cent of the price of the 320 - when they were new, the relationship was closer to 320=30% of the price of a 720. So supply versus demand sees a JD 320 trading for over $20,000. And so it goes with H's and M's versus smaller IH tractors - you see a Cub going for more than an H or an M.

Go figure what's going to be in demand relative to its supply tomorrow and you will have mastered the stock or commodites markets (after all, when you plant seed as a farmer, that's what you're doing) and be filthy rich!
